HERBHOME FARM

OUR FARM MISSON STATEMENT :

We believe that life is a neverending Circle and that we should strive to bring the things we do within that Circle.
Our values, our lifestyle, the goals we strive for , our work and our products-all should fall with in the whole. Sometimes it can be difficult to maintain a long term striving and at the same time live a happy , rewarding life.
We believe that by integrating the whole , we will come much closer to achieving both our spiritual and material goals.

Herbhome Farms are based in Newton County Arkansas.
We are creating a sustainable Herbal Repository, Market Garden and Educational Program open to the public anytime.

Our drive is to produce a living example of a working herb farm and educational center to both our local community and the region. We will demonstrate how sustainble practice aand holistic mangement techniques can promote and maintain a viable farm life.

Our goals are to:

Base our decison making on the sustainable needs of the land, environment and long term family needs and values.

Manage costs thru the use of the holistic decison making process, making a monthly , rather than yearly, assessment of progress, utilizing skills and labor resources within the farm group, barter and recyling before expending funds on projects.

Example: We needed large amounts of mulch, a major expense. When the electric company was clearing the right of way we spoke for and recieved 10 truckloads of chips , (after being sure that the area had not been sprayed) that were then used for mulch and walkways. (We also got firewood out of the deal.)

Maintin an active, public role in education in our community, through our participation in the master gardener's progam, speaking engagements , our workshops and Wild Walks and the Faires we hold spring and fall.

Maintain an herbal respository-gardens focused primarily on native plants but inclusive of many other herbs , open to the public.

Employ neighborhood people keeping them working close to home , involved in their community and creating a broader knowledge base about herbs and homestead skills for our comunity.

Continually evaluate our process, working toward stated goals, but remaining flexible enough to revise plans if it is demostrated to not be working. Have a diversity of farm generated products-if one section fails for a particular season then there are other items to fall back upon.

Teach home stead skills , relating them to herbal use, such as herbs used to dye the yarn spun from the sheep raised on theproperty. another Example-how to milk a goat, the milk makes cheese and yogurt and is also used in soaps, fed to baby goats and calves for meat and market-the goats also provide a brush destroying herd and are sold as breeding stock and meat animals.

Essentially we believe that all our actions in both farm and personal life are inter-related and rather than seperating them , we need to integrate them, striving for a long term life style , sharing that experience with others.
