THOUGHTS Since We are beginning a new adventure into the World and Art of Falconry, I thought we'd share it as we learn. One of the most important things we do in life is to pass on our enthusiasms about the wild and how we connect to it. The hunting is very important, but the flight….ah, the Flight-Have you ever watched a Peregrine and the sudden stoop to her prey? One of the unrecognized (by the Public) benefits of Falconry is the survival of successful hunters , that are most frequently released back to the wild after a year or so of companionship hunting with the Austringer. Once trained, the birds mostly chose to stay with the Falconer-as a successful partnership. They are not pets, domesticated or abused. Once "manned" they hunt daily or exercise, have a sheltered, clean area to perch in and are protected from stray domestic animals and other predators such as Owls and Eagles. Falconry is perhaps THE most strictly regulated sport alive today. It is by the system of Apprentice, General and Master Falconers, who strongly supervise each other and by both The Federal Government and the State Game and Fish Commission, that Falconry ethics and standards are maintained.
