Gentle rain falling...
There are really a few beautiful trees happening. out on Tom Thumb road there is a huge hickory the is pure gold. One of our ancient oaks in the yard has started to turn that intense red that it gets, while the sivler maples are all the shades of autumn.
I noticed that the animals are beginning to build their winter coats. dixie the old fox trotter is getting downright fuzzy. They were all feeling good yesterday-It was a sight! 8 horses running and kicking, crow hopping across the big field! Cool weather makes them feel so much happier.
I finnaly got to take off ona hike -checked the trails on the place for any major disasters and just ambled a long enjoying the fall feeling. The dogwood on the south slope are red already, while the smaller hickories and persimmons are turning gold and amber colored. If the rain lets up , I am going back out and gather some 'simmons to make a batch of Persimmon Butter. Went to Patty's for supper last night and took a jar of my red plum jam to her-So M's mary , her Mom, gave me "The Look"! Got to run some over to her today..
The preserving and crafting that we do is an art form in itself. I love the texture and color in my jars of jelly and jams, and the smells are heavenly when you are cooking off a batch of apple butter , or peach jam...
